10/23/07: Josh finishes 4th at Hickory Motor Speedway in Hickory, North Carolina. What a great night and great racing!!! The Lorz Motorsports Team grabbed 3rd with Michael Pickens and 4th with Josh. After a long caution filled evening the teammates worked their way to the front. The last three laps were completed under yellow or who knows what could have happened. Josh qualified in the 9th spot and after a lap 27 spin and a cut tire on lap 48, both sending Josh to the back of the pack, a young race driver emerged. Having to come from the back not just once but twice the Lorz Motorsports #54 Ford Fusion was on a mission. With three laps to go Josh found himself on his teammate's rear bumper, it was at that time that the ASA race officials deciding to run the last three laps under yellow. Josh wasn't happy, nor was the rest of the Lorz Motorsports Team but sometimes things are out of your control and you deal with it. Josh would like to thank Team Owner Mike Lorz, Crew Chief Donny Udoni, spotter Ray Jager and the rest of the Lorz crew for a great job, especially with changing the cut right front tire and keeping Josh on the lead lap. Now we have to wait until next year to build on this success. Josh will sign with Lorz Motorsports for the 2008 season and run the ASA Late Model Series North Division and select South and Challenge Division events. Look for next year to be very busy for this young 19 year old driver from Algonquin, IL. |

10/16/07: Josh is getting ready for his first race deep in the heart of NASCAR country. The famed Hickory Speedway has seen many a NASCAR champion turn a wheel at this track. The 1/3 mile track is similar to Grundy County Speedway, Josh's home track, but has much more banking in the corners which make for some very fast racing. Josh will be driving the Lorz Motorsports #54 Ford Fusion for the second time. Josh will be teamed up with Michael Pickens. Michael will be driving the Lorz Motorsports #6 Ford Fusion for the weekend. The New Zealander is an accomplished open wheel driver with several big wins in midgets and sprint cars under his belt. Josh has had a busy year with wins in the Rotary Rockets Formula Mazda series, and his 125cc shifter kart. He managed a top 5 with the Freitag/Charno Motorsports Beast/Ford midget in a shortened season, and now currently piloting the Lorz Motorsports #54 has made Josh very busy indeed. 10/14/07: Josh Lane and Lorz Motorsports will be towing down to Hickory Speedway, North Carolina on October 20th for the ASA Late Model Series South Division race. The 1/3 mile track has more banking than Grundy County Speedway, but the size is similar to Josh's home track. This will be Josh's first race with the ASA Late Model Series South Division but the Lorz Motorsports driver is hoping for a stronger finish than his initial race at Grundy County Speedway. Josh learned a great deal about these larger, heavier cars and now is looking forward to getting back to the track. Check for race results on www.asalatemodels.com. 9/9/17: Josh Lane drove the Lorz Motorsports Ford Fusion #54 with the ASA Late Model Series at Grundy County Speedway. Josh finished 23rd in a race that had very little attrition probably due to a pre race mandate set out by ASA Late Models Series owner Ron Varney. Ron wanted a clean race and he got it. Josh had brake problems early at lap 30, but was able to get a lot of seat time and keep all four corners on the car. Car owner Mike Lorz was very happy with Josh's run. "We put a conservative set up on the car to get Josh seat time, when we had the brake problem it messed up our plans a little but Josh was able to compensate and keep the car clean". Even with Josh back in the field he was turning lap times very close to that of the leaders over the last 30 laps. Josh drove a smart race and learned a great deal about these cars. "They don't turn like the midget, and the longer races means I need to learn more patience during the race", Josh stated after the event. The Lorz Motorsports Team is looking to test Josh at Illiana Speedway early October. Josh and the Lorz Motorsports Team are planning to tow down to Hickory, NC on October 20th for the ASA Late Model Series South Division race. Josh would like to thank Lorz Motorsports, and Performance Enterprises, Inc. for the opportunity to race with the ASA Late Model Series. Lorz Motorsports' website is www.Lorzmotorsports.com and the ASA website is www.asalatemodels.com. 8/18/07: With yet another rain out at Grundy County Speedway, the Freitag/Charno Motorsports is announcing the sale of the operation and all it's equipment, engines, cars, etc. The team has decided to take another direction in racing and the decision has been made to clean out the garage. Josh will be driving the Lorz Motorsports #54 Ford Fusion at Grundy County Speedway on Sept. 9th with the ASA Late Model Series. An announcement regarding Josh's 2008 plans will be forthcoming. Please check back shortly. 8/08/07: Josh has successfully tested an ASA Late Model at Grundy County Speedway last week. The ASA team was very impressed with Josh's first day in a stock car. Josh stated that it was a lot different from the 900 lb. midget he is currently piloting. He will test the car at Illiana Speedway within the next two weeks to allow the owner and his crew another chance to observe Josh in the larger car. This time utilizing the larger 1/2 mile circuit. If things work out Josh could very well be driving an ASA Late Model next season in the North Division. Discussions are on going so check back here for the latest news. 8/08/07: Josh has won his second Rotary Rocket/Formula Mazda race today at Gingerman. If not for a few DNFs he would be contending for this year's title. As it stands, Josh is comfortably in second. Congrats Josh on another fine job. 7/13/07: Lance Lane finishes 5th in nation. Lance Lane, co-owner and crew chief for Freitag/Charno Motorsports placed fifth in the Ford Motor Co. Ultimate Challenge for their technicians. Over 3900 technicians started the competition and only the 11 Regional winners were invited to Dearborn, MI to compete for the title. CONGRATS to Lance for a job well down 7/13/07: Josh Lane wins at Grattan. Josh Lane drove his Formula Mazda into Victory Lane Wednesday, July 11 at Grattan Raceway. Josh is currently 2nd place with the Rotary Rockets group. In six events Josh has one win and two second places in his rookie season. The Freitag/Charno Motorsports Team needs to spend more time with the current motor package as it has proven to have fallen short of expectations. A few schedule changes will keep the team closer to home, at Grundy County, while the team works on the motor and handling of the Beast/Ford. We might add some more USAC Regional events if things turn around. See everyone at Grundy County on June 23rd. 6/16/07 ORP: Our second visit to ORP proved to be just as dissapointing as the the Night Before the 500. Our motor program is not what it should be and because of this problem the Freitag/Charno Motorsports team has not had the ability to concentrate on the handling of the Beast/Ford midget. Josh lost the brakes on the car in the Last Chance Qualifier and had to bring it in, ending the day. 6/10/07: The motor is back from Scott Bailey and the Freitag/Charno Motorsports Team is ready for ORP in Indy for next week's USAC Doubleheader. Both the Sprint cars and Midgets will tackle the famed 5/8 mile oval. We are confident that the engine demons have been exorcized and Josh will have a much better mount. See you there. 5/29/07: As feared, the motor will not be ready for the UMARA opener this Saturday. We are trying to lease another car for the weekend. Check back for updates and pictures of the new Freitag/Charno Beast/Ford. 5/28/07: ORP was unkind to say the least. 54 USAC National midgets hauled to Indy the vie for the 24 coveted spots on the grid. Freitag/Charno Motorsports and driver, Josh Lane were not lucky enough to start the A Main. A broken valve retainer sidelined the Beast/Ford early in the evening and made the team tow up to Bailey Racing Engines early Sunday morning to drop the the motor off. We hope to be ready for the UMARA opener on June 2nd. Stay tuned. 5/23/07: The Ford just came off the dyno at Brayton Engineering and the results look promising. The Freitag/Charno Motorsports Team will be at O'Reilly Raceway Park for the "Night Before the 500" USAC National Midget race. We are hoping the motor and rear end problems that have plagued us thus far in our first two USAC National outings will be exorcized. Everyone here at Freitag/Charno Motorsports is looking forward to Indy. Hope to see you there. 5/22/07: Josh will be driving a Formula Mazda at Blackhawk Farms wednesday, May 23 with the Rotary Rocket Group. Testing, qualifying, and two races on the historic road course fill the day's activities. Josh has won many 125cc shifter kart and other karting events at Blackhawk Farms and the Rotary Rocket Group is looking at young drivers who have shown potential on road courses. Results will follow here later. 5/22/07: Lance Lane, Crew Chief/Co-Owner of Freitag/Charno Motorsports has just won the Chicago Region Ford Motor Company Masters Challenge for Ford technicians. Lance now competes at the Nationals against the other 10 regional winners. The competition started with over 3,900 technicians from all over the country and is now down to the final 11. Congratulations and good luck Lance. 5/22/07: The team is currently waiting to hear from Bailey Racing in Coldwater, MI as to the status of the team's engine. We are hoping to have the motor back in a day so Lance can get the car back together and Freitag/Charno Motorsports can get down to ORP for the "Night Before the 500" USAC National Midget race. Check back for more info. |
